Day 1 with a new baby

The pediatrician came in at about 4AM and checked on the little man. He talked with us about what to expect next and said we would have to stay the entire day in the hospital and get discharged on Sunday. So Saturday was kind of a wash. We held the baby as much as we could and expressed our happiness to the life we now have. I ran a few errands, brought one of the babies blankets home to the dog to smell. I guess it helps the pets get used to the baby if they have something to smell before hand.
The beds for dads at the hospital is really just a folding chair. Really I could have slept on the floor but the chair did have some level of comfort to it. I didn’t sleep much, maybe 4 hours total but even that felt like enough.
We had people coming by to visit throughout the day. Friends and family all coming by to see the baby. I was tired and having so many people come through was tiring but we kept a smile on our faces. It was nice to see so many people that we excited to hold our newest addition to our family.
I ran down the street to get some dinner for the two of us. Hospital food is lacking no matter where you go. I ended up getting some Greek pitas at a place down the road and I inhaled it in two minutes. I hadn’t done very much but I was starving.
It’s still weird to me to call him by his name. I just read through this post realizing how much I have probably bored all of you with these details and noticing that I call him baby 99% of the time and hardly by his name.
