The Happiest Baby - The Cesar Millan For Babies

My wife had me put in a DVD today about Happy Babies. I was ready to go hide in the office for a bit but she insisted. The movie was called The Happiest Baby and I was reminded of Cesar Millan of The Dog Whisperer.
Dr. Harvey Karp is a nationally renowned pediatrician and child development specialist. He is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the UCLA School of Medicine. Over the past 30 years, he has taught thousands of parents, from working moms to superstars like Madonna, Michelle Pfeiffer and Pierce Brosnan his secrets for making children happy.
The Happiest Baby on the Block - The New Way to Calm Crying and Help Your Baby Sleep Longer (DVD)
The video looked like it was filmed in the 80’s though it was released in 2003. Dr.Karp shows in about 2hrs how to calm a fussy baby. I thought it was ridiculous for the first 30 minutes but he seemed to have some type of control over these babies.
He would hold a baby that was screaming it’s head off and within seconds the baby was reduced to a calm, sleepy and happy child.
After watching the movie I still had my apprehensions but I was about to test it myself. My baby hates diaper change time. Something about getting naked and having a cold wipe run across his bum just sets him off. As if on queue he was not happy and after the diaper was changed and he was redressed, my wife walked into the living room and ran through the process that we had just watched.
OMG…my baby was silent in about 2 minutes. Half asleep and as calm as he ever is, my little man responded to the effects of this movie.
Have any of you used Dr. Karp’s books or DVD’s before? I’m hoping this wasn’t some coincidence and I’ll be sure to post if it’s a fluke but if this continues, I will buy stock in this man. Thank you Dr. Karp.

OMG. Dr. Harvey Karp was my first parent crush, followed shortly by Dr. Ferber. I could French kiss them both. Happiest Baby on the Block and the Miracle Blanket are two of my new parent must haves. I don’t care if it’s not on the registry. I will buy it for expecting parents. Because, really, who thinks their adorable bundle of joy is going to be such a fusspot while they are registering? I’m so glad it worked for you!

I read the book while I was pregnant, but I haven’t tried all the techniques yet. the few I have seem to work pretty well.
by the way, i found your blog a while ago, and its fun to read. we just had our first son a week ago so it’s great to read about someone going through just what we are.
